The young Cheddi Jagan attended Queen’s College in Georgetown and continued his studies in the United States, qualifying a as Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1942. In August the next year, he married Janet Rosenberg of Chicago. Together, the couple were to have two children.

From April -October 1953, Dr Jagan headed the first PPP Government. His party also won the 1957 and 1961 elections. He headed the third PPP Government as Premier and Minister of Development and Planning
